Holiday book swap - reminder

On Tuesday the 1st of July Redwood school is holding a Holiday Book Swap.
We would like each child to bring a book to school to donate to the Book Swap.
In exchange for donating a book your child will receive a book swap token.
On Tuesday our class will visit the library and participating children will be able to swap their token for a book.
The donated books should be in good condition and appropriate for children at the same age group.
Remember to bring in your book, there is a box in class waiting!

Mum's lunch

We had a great time having lunch with our mum's on Friday 27th June.
Thanks to those that were able to join us.
The weather was wet to begin with which meant a cosy inside lunch for us.
Can you spot your mum?

Run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

This week we have done a lot of work around the fairy tale 'The Gingerbread man'.
We have retold the fairytale in our writing, we have summarised the main points in our reading,
for our topic we have discussed which parts are fact and fiction.
To finish the week we made our own Gingerbread boys!
We worked so well together to make the dough from scratch. We measured out the ingredients, mixed the dough, then rolled and shaped our very own Gingerbread boys.  Then we baked them in the staffroom oven and on Friday we painted them.  They look fabulous, great work Room 7!

100 days update - day 79

Each day we add a link to our paper chain.
We love to measure it.
Check out how long it was on day 79!

Our chain is longer than one bench, but shorter than two benches.

Our 100 days board, Mr Gorilla is keeping a good eye on it!

14 children can hold the paper chain

'Harold and the purple crayon' - by Crockett Johnson

During book week Room 7 focused on the children's book 'Harold and the purple crayon'.
The whole class contributed to a wall mural.  Alex and Troy started the mural by drawing the  landscape, then each child had a chance to add detail to the picture.
The finished mural has mountains, gardens, the ocean, a city, bridges and even a fire-breathing dragon.  When we finished we talked about taking a journey through our imaginary land and what this would be like.  What amazing imaginations the children have!

Come into class and check it out!

Reading with our buddies

Friday is our buddy class day.
This week Room 11 came up to our class and listened to us read.

This was a chance for Room 7 children to share their progress,  and for Room 11 children to model good reading strategies, and to help out when needed.
