It was a frosty morning...

Tawa had its first real frost yesterday morning.
When I arrived at school the grounds were covered in a shimmering blanket of ice.

In class we talked about what the children had noticed on this cold morning.  Then we rugged up warm and went on a frost hunt.

We found frost in the shady parts of the school..."where has all the rest gone?" I asked,  "It has melted in the sun", said Mitchell.
Back in the warm of our room we brainstormed words and wrote  about what we had seen, felt and heard outside.  Check out some of our writing below.

I was freezing.  I was holding a frozen leaf.

The frozen frost was super cold shivering on my hands.
I drew on the frost.

It was freezing.  My hands got cold, they got sore.  It was a lot of fun.
Then I saw grass and it was icy.

I felt freezing when we touched the ice.

It was so freezing. My hands got too cold when I first came inside.
If I got colder I would turn into a snowman.
Oh bother!

We have decided to make a book of our stories so that we can remember the cold, cold, frosty morning.
Come and see it on our library shelf!

Pataka Trip

This week Kiwi and Tui syndicates have visited Pataka as part of our Topic this term.
We started with a bus ride.

Once at Pataka we started with learning about the essentials items in an ANZAC soldiers kit.

Almost all of the essentials laid out.  What's left in the kit?

Next we went into the workroom and created our own poppies.
We followed instructions and asked for help if we needed it.

Concentrating while cutting.

Fantastic poppy Jake!

Buddy class - ANZAC biscuits

Last week Rooms 15 and 7 worked together to make ANZAC biscuits.  The children had to follow the recipe to make their very own biscuit.  They measured out the ingredients, mixed them in a cup then rolled out their biscuit.  Check out the photos...

Assembly and ANZAC Ted

Well done on hosting Kiwi/Tui Assembly on Friday.
All the children did a great job considering we didn't have long to practice.
The plan was to practice on Thursday afternoon...and then the rain came down...!
Below is our educreations about the story ANZAC Ted.

We drew our own ANZAC Ted's.  We followed step-by-step instructions then painted them.
They are now displayed in the classroom.

Tuesday 5 May

Children will take part in the school cross country tomorrow.  This year it will be held at neighbouring Redwood Park, starting at 11am.  Year One girls will race first (approx. 11:10am) followed by Year One boys.  If you can,  please have your child wear a yellow top.  Our class will stay at Redwood Park after the race to support other year levels. We hope to see you there!
