Shakey shakey!

We have been doing lots of learning about dairy farms and what cows produce.
Today we made butter from cream.
Each group had a jar and some cream.

Then all we had to do was SHAKE!

Yum - the cream separated and turned into buttermilk and butter!

Next we tried our butter.  It was soft, smooth, creamy and delicious!

Dairy Farm visit

We had a great day 'down on the farm'.
After a long bus ride we arrived at our destination.
We had perfect weather and the calves and cows were very well behaved!
Check out the photos!
Feeding the calves milk

"It sucked my whole hand" said Sydney.

Beautiful rural views!

Hungry calves

Those udders look full - time for milking?

A short walk to have a look at the big cows

Off to the milking shed

What a great day.

Students as teachers

This week the Turquiose reading group  have been reading a Junior Journal.
One part of the journal was some instructions to make some paper creations.
During reading time Willow and Gianna read the instructions with Mrs O'Leary and made a cool paper house and then a paper tree.
In the afternoon it was their job to teach the rest of the class how to make them.
Check out the photos below.

Well done Gianna and Willow, you read the instructions clearly and slowly and helped your classmates when they were stuck!
The houses look great, perfect size for our teddies!

It's all about maths!

The problem

The children came up with lots of combinations and used counting strategies such as counting-on and doubling to make sure they had only seated 12 teddies at the 4 tables.
